Job summary

Saronic Technologies in Austin, TX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to design, develop, test, and optimize autonomous surface vessels. You will apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects that impact national security and maritime innovation.

This hands-on internship focuses on ASV hardware/software, hull form analysis, propulsion and navigation systems, and sensor data processing, with collaboration across engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
• Experience with design and simulation tools such as Rhino, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks is a plus.
• Experience with engineering calculations, solid modeling, and drawing.
• Experience with engineering report writing, data acquisition and analysis, and Arduino/Raspberry Pi programming.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of hardware and software systems for ASVs.
• Support analysis of ASV hull forms for stability, hydrodynamics, and structural integrity.
• Participate in testing and validation of ASV prototypes and vessel autonomy algorithms.
• Assist in CFD simulations to evaluate vessel performance.
• Conduct research and implement solutions for sensor integration and data processing.
• Contribute to integration of propulsion systems, control surfaces, and onboard equipment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and refine ASV prototypes.
• Document progress, prepare reports, and present findings to the team.
• Support downstream workflow of directed research and build tasks.
• Execute engineering report writing, data acquisition, and data analysis.
• Contribute using hand/power tools, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi programming.
