Job summary

Ginkgo Bioworks Inc. seeks a Software Engineer III to develop drivers for autonomous lab robots, focusing on reliable, high-performance software that interfaces with robotic arms, plate readers, and other lab hardware.

You will work across Catalyst stack with scientists and QA to validate driver performance and build automated tests, while traveling to Boston, MA as needed for field support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2-4 years of professional software development experience, with focus on hardware integration or driver development.
• Extensive experience with Python.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with laboratory automation, robotics, or scientific instrumentation is highly beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Driver Development & Implementation: design, implement, and maintain robust software drivers using Python and/or C#/.NET for lab automation hardware.
• Understand and implement low-level hardware communication protocols (RS-232, USB, TCP/IP).
• Develop drivers with a focus on reliability and create intuitive interfaces for high-level developers.
