Job Summary
The Autonomic Lab Neurodiagnostic technologist facilitates a battery of tests to measure the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. This person will split their time between the MGH Autonomic Testing Lab and the BWH Faulkner Autonomic Testing Lab, with the majority of the time at MGH. The technologist will measure the heart rate and blood pressure of the patient who will be exposed to a variety of stimuli that are controlled by the technologist such as deep breathing, active standing, and passive head-up tilting on a tilt-table. In addition, the technologist will perform a sympathetic skin response test that will evaluate and record the galvanic response from the skin.
The technician will be responsible for preparing the patient for the autonomic testing in the lab as well as providing explanations of what to expect. When the exams are complete, the technologist organizes the data into a report.
