An established industry player is seeking a Neurodiagnostic Technologist to facilitate tests measuring autonomic nervous system function. The Autonomic Lab Neurodiagnostic technologist facilitates a battery of tests to measure the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. This person will split their time between the MGH Autonomic Testing Lab and the BWH Faulkner Autonomic Testing Lab, with the majority of the time at MGH. The technologist will measure the heart rate and blood pressure of the patient who will be exposed to a variety of stimuli that are controlled by the technologist such as deep breathing, active standing, and passive head-up tilting on a tilt-table. In addition, the technologist will perform a sympathetic skin response test that will evaluate and record the galvanic response from the skin.
The technician will be responsible preparing the patient for the autonomic testing in the lab as well as providing explanations of what to expect. When the exams are complete, the technologist organizes the data into a report.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
- Correctly places EKG leads and electrodes to acquire a diagnostically accurate EKG - Prepares a patient for testing
- Explains each autonomic test component to the patient and assures they understand what to expect, how to communicate during the test and why the test has been ordered
- Sets up the patient room with all necessary equipment before the patient's test time
- Performs each autonomic test and records observations in real time
- Helps to maintain proper scheduling in conjunction with the scheduling department
- Provides patients with pre-appointment paperwork and answers any patient questions prior to appointment date
- Maintains proper supply levels and orders additional testing supplies as needed
- Enters test result data - With the help of the front desk and scheduling department, ensures each patient has insurance coverage in place prior to visit
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Director of the department
- ABRET required. Must obtain with 1 year of hire
- Prior experience preferred
- Associate's Degree preferred
- Can perform accurate EKG tracings
- Excellent patient interactive skills
- Can recognize life threatening arrhythmias
- Can recognize EKG artifact
- Can enter data quickly and accurately
- Can measure blood pressures
- Massachusetts license is not required
