Job summary

AVL North America is seeking an Application Engineer II to join the Plymouth, Michigan team. You will support testbed commissioning for engine, powertrain, emissions, battery, inverter, eMotor, and eAxle testing, driving projects with a PM to manage cost and schedule.

Travel about 40% is required, and on-site work in Southeast Michigan is expected. The role requires strong electrical aptitude, hands-on troubleshooting, and excellent customer service and communication skills, with 3+ years of

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent required.
• Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent preferred.
• 3–5+ years of relevant field experience required.
• Experience with test automation equipment preferred.
• Strong electrical and mechanical understanding; able to read schematics.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to lead projects on-site with cost and schedule awareness.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison and company representative with customers.
• Commission test systems including setup and troubleshoot test and measurement systems.
• Implement and tune complex control loops.
• Integrate auxiliary equipment into test systems.
• Setup monitoring and control of relevant safeties.
• Create commissioning documentation.
• Provide training on system applications.
• Obtain customer sign-off.
• Write and implement complex custom tests.
• Provide project engineering technical support.
