Duties/Responsibilities for Automotive Technician (GS)
- Maintain our customer’s vehicles.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance.
- Perform tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
- Identify mechanical problems visually or through diagnostics.
- Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning parts such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical components.
- Plan and establish a timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
- Provide timely communication with management and team members regarding the status and needs.
- Record and report any damage to property immediately.
- Test drive vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Role and Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance such as oil changes, vehicle inspections, fluid services, and tire services.
- Learn to perform mechanical repairs on all major components and systems.
- Use diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle issues accurately.
- Properly use and maintain tools and shop equipment.
- Perform digital inspections with documentation, including photos and identified concerns.
- Identify special circumstances, parts, or labor considerations.
- Explain repairs and issues to service advisors for effective communication with clients.
- Recommend only necessary repairs and services with integrity.
- Lift up to 50 pounds multiple times; over 50 pounds requires assistance.
- Willingness to learn through shop and classroom training.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Contribute to a clean, safe, and positive work environment.
Higher Level Technician Duties/Responsibilities
- Identify mechanical issues visually or with diagnostic tools.
- Perform tests to confirm proper function of parts and systems.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Ensure repairs are completed correctly, including test drives.
- Communicate effectively with management and team members.
- Perform additional duties based on business needs.
Skills/Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of vehicle repair and service procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and software.
- Adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently or in a team.
- Handle pressure and think clearly in all situations.
- Regularly lift 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat during repairs and inspections.
Educational/Experience Requirements
- Two to five years of related experience highly preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, squat, and lift 50 pounds.
- Work safely in noisy and odorous environments.
