Job summary

CarMax, the nation's largest retailer of used cars, is seeking an Automotive Technician in Merriam, KS. You will diagnose, repair, and recondition vehicles to CarMax standards in a clean, climate-controlled shop.

Responsibilities include engine and brake work, suspension and steering diagnostics, and multi-point inspections, with growth opportunities as you gain independence. A sign-on bonus is available for external hires.

Qualifications

• Basic to intermediate automotive repair experience (engines, brakes, suspension, HVAC).
• Knowledge of safety protocols and compliance.
• Ability to multitask in a high-volume, fast-paced shop.
• Strong attention to detail with clear communication.
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity (lift, stand).
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicles to CarMax standards.
• Perform automotive services from basic maintenance to complex repairs.
• Complete multi-point inspections and document findings.
• Repair or replace components to support reconditioning.
• Assist with alignment, suspension, and diagnostics to gain independence.
• Collaborate with teammates to meet production goals while upholding CarMax values.
• Follow EH&S requirements and maintain a clean work area.
