Fleet Services maintains county vehicles and small equipment by performing both routine and preventive maintenance on a scheduled service interval. In addition, computerized records are maintained for parts, labor, and fuel usage for the accurate tracking of cost analysis required for operations and equipment replacement.
The duties listed below are not all that may be assigned, but are those that are considered essential for an employee to perform.- Performs all duties of vehicle services, inspections, tests, and repairs.
- Repairs transmissions, differentials, fuel pumps, starters, alternators, water pumps, and all other engine components.
- Inspects, tests, and repairs electrical and electronic systems, warning lights, sirens, seat belts, and related safety and emergency equipment on the job and/or classroom training programs for skilled mechanical certifications.
- Repairs brake systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, and air conditioning systems.
- Inspects, replaces, or repairs tires, operates wheel balance equipment, and uses a tire changer.
- Completes NC Inspection on all vehicles.
- Level II – Performs all duties above and runs diagnostic equipment, and performs more advanced repairs and overhauls major system related to safety and emergency equipment.
- Level III – Performs all duties above with minimal supervision and trains and oversees the work of Auto Techs I and II, as well as maintains knowledge of modern methods, equipment, and performs advanced repairs on complex automotive systems without supervision.
- High School Diploma or GED, Associate's degree preferred
- Two years experience as Automotive Mechanic/ Technician
- All Tech Levels must have own hand tools
- Mustpossess a valid NC driver’s license.
