Job summary

Ada County is seeking an experienced automotive technician to diagnose and repair patrol and support vehicles. You will use advanced tools to troubleshoot electronics and mechanical systems, ensuring readiness for service.

The role requires ASE certifications within 6 months, a high school diploma, and strong mechanical knowledge in a safety‑conscious shop with ongoing training opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• ASE A4 (Steering and Suspension) and ASE A5 (Brakes) within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, components, and installation processes.
• Safety protocols for automotive maintenance and repair.
• Ability to read electrical drawings & schematics; use diagnostic tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform bumper to bumper diagnostics and repairs on light-duty trucks, cars, boats, buses, and PWC.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot vehicle electronic and mechanical systems.
• Service automatic transmissions and drivetrain components.
• Conduct routine maintenance: oil changes, filter replacements, fluids and lubrication.
• Change, rotate and balance tires; perform brake work as required.
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems, fuel injection, emission controls, and hybrid/electric components.
• Perform minor tune-ups and replace spark plugs and ignition components as required.
• Replace belts, hoses, gaskets, pumps, thermostats, and other parts as needed.
• Prepare new patrol or detective vehicles for service; install police equipment.
• Attend monthly training to stay updated with vehicle technologies.
