Job description

Automotive Technician 3rd Class

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Automotive Technician 3rd Class in our Hughesville location.

Job Summary

This position pays $33.37 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and related equipment.
  • Report equipment needing major repair to the supervisor.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records.
  • Learn and perform fabrication, acetylene welding, and electric welding for minor repairs.
  • Assist and learn to diagnose and repair electronic systems, automotive and diesel engines.
  • Perform electronic repairs on antilock brakes, air bags, and emission systems.
  • Use specialized electronic testing equipment, including web-based and laptop standalone test equipment, for diagnoses.
  • Learn to use complex wiring diagrams to diagnose operating faults in wire harnesses and computer controls.
Candidate Profile

We are seeking a candidate who is reliable, teachable, detail oriented, adaptable, engaged, and possesses good teamwork skills.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required; position requires reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • At least one year of experience as a Shop Attendant, or equivalent automotive maintenance or vocational training experience.
  • Must hold a valid Maryland Learner's permit for a Class A Commercial Driver's License or above, with a good driving record, and obtain a regular Class A CDL within six months.
  • Must hold a current Department of Transportation Medical Examiners Certificate.
