We are seeking a skilled Automotive Technician I, II, or III, with the position grade and pay rate determined based on certifications and experience. This position involves repairing, overhauling, servicing, and maintaining a variety of City fleet vehicles, including cars, light & medium-duty trucks, and light equipment.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $34.23 - $37.73 per hour, depending on credentials and experience. The Pay Grade for this position is FL2, FL3, or FL4. For more information, click here to view the pay ranges PDF.

Duties

• Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical and electrical problems in automobiles, patrol cars, trucks, and light & medium-duty gas and diesel-powered equipment.
• Performs planned maintenance and services vehicles and equipment in the field when necessary.
• Maintains records of work, time, and materials.
• Participates in training to stay current with automotive technology and repair procedures.
• Performs welding and fabrication on body/frame parts and custom accessories.
• Cleans work areas and follows safety protocols.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent plus additional technical training.
• Automotive Technician I: Minimum of two ASE Certifications.
• Automotive Technician II: Minimum of 7 ASE Certifications from the specified list.
• Automotive Technician III: Minimum of 14 ASE Certifications, including Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation Technician and other specified certifications.
• Valid Illinois Class D driver’s license.
