Job summary

RGBSI is seeking an experienced Steel Buyer with a focus on direct steel procurement for automotive manufacturing. The role covers steel coil, blanks, and scrap, with responsibility for supplier management, price negotiation, and market analysis to optimize cost and supply.

You will negotiate with mills and processors, monitor market indexes, and develop cost-reduction strategies while maintaining strong supplier relationships.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years direct steel procurement experience.
• Experience in an automotive Tier 1 or Tier 2 environment (BIW, stamping, metal forming).
• Proven experience negotiating steel and scrap prices.
• Knowledge of steel market indexes and price adjustment mechanisms.
• Strong supplier negotiation and relationship-management skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage direct procurement of steel coils, blanks, and scrap for automotive manufacturing.
• Negotiate pricing with suppliers, mills, service centers, and processors.
• Monitor market trends and develop cost-reduction strategies.
• Manage market index-based pricing and adjustment mechanisms (CRU, Platts, AMM Scrap).
• Develop and maintain relationships with mills, service centers, processors, and other suppliers.
• Analyze supplier pricing, market conditions, and cost drivers to support sourcing decisions.
• Support procurement strategies and identify cost savings and risk reduction.
• Apply knowledge of steel manufacturing processes and automotive supply chain to purchasing decisions.
• Prepare and analyze procurement data using Excel and PowerPoint.
