Job summary

The New York State Thruway Authority is seeking a Service & Repair Assistant (Motor Equipment) to perform semiskilled maintenance and repair tasks under supervision. The role involves routine repairs on automotive and mechanical equipment, preventive maintenance, and assisting journey-level mechanics in major repairs.

Qualifications

• Two years of mechanical work experience under supervision or completion of a two-year technical school program.

Responsibilities

• Assist with semiskilled maintenance and repairs under supervision.
• Replace components on automotive/mechanical equipment (e.g., bearings, starters, pumps, radiators).
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and minor engine repairs per specs.
• Assist journey-level mechanics in major repairs and disassembly/assembly of engines and components.
• Support ignition, charging, lighting, and chassis system adjustments.
