About the Role: Service Advisor

Overview

The Automotive Service Advisor is responsible for building strong customer relationships and selling the technicians’ time. They greet and consult customers on service needs, perform a thorough vehicle walk-around inspection as part of the write-up, sell and upsell services by emphasizing value, keep customers updated on services, field all live service calls, and take ownership of the customers’ experience by carrying out those additional assignments that allow the dealership to leave an impressionable experience with the customer.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Advises customers about necessary service for routine maintenance.
  • Helps identify mechanical problems by questioning the customer or doing visual inspections or road tests.
  • Confers with customers about inspection results, recommends corrective procedures, and prepares work orders for needed repairs.
  • Maintains high customer satisfaction standards & handles customer complaints.
  • Prepares repair orders showing time, cost, and labor estimates for service.
  • Explains the work performed and the repair order charges to the customer.
  • Schedules service appointments.
  • Test drives the vehicle with the customer as needed to confirm the problem or refer to a test technician.
  • Refers to service history, inspects vehicles, and recommends additional needed services.
  • Advises customers on vehicle care and the value of maintaining their vehicles according to manufacturers' specifications.
  • Provides complete and accurate written estimates for labor and parts.
  • Obtains customer's signature on repair orders; provides a copy to the customer.
  • Establishes customer's method of payment and obtains credit approval if necessary.
  • Checks on repair progress throughout the day, contacts customers regarding any changes, explains costs and time requirements in detail, and gets proper authorization before additional repairs.
  • Reviews repair orders to ensure work is completed, notes additional work and authorizations, and closes repair orders appropriately.
  • Ensures vehicles are parked in assigned areas, locked, and keys are properly marked and stored.
  • Handles telephone inquiries regarding appointments and work in progress.
  • Inspects vehicles for body work, informs customers if work is needed, and provides estimates for body repairs.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Keeps work area clean and performs other tasks as assigned.

  • Must satisfy I-9 employment verification requirements.
