Job summary

LyondellBasell Industries in Lansing, MI is seeking a Technology Development Engineer to lead the full lifecycle of polypropylene compound resins for automotive applications. You will drive concept through commercialization, coordinating with manufacturing, suppliers, and OEMs to ensure quality and timely product launches.

The role emphasizes problem solving, technical ownership, and cross-functional communication, with a focus on polymer science, processing, and application issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Polymer Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Master’s or PhD preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in polymer or polymer compound development and/or technical support.
• Experience in the automotive market is preferred, including OEM approval processes and automotive quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of new polypropylene compounds for automotive applications, from concept through commercialization.
• Support compound scale up, manufacturing readiness, quality planning, and OEM approval processes.
• Provide technical support for existing commercial PP compound products.
• Serve as center of excellence for a defined set of raw materials and suppliers.
• Collaborate with suppliers to expand material capabilities and share best practices.
• Act as technical focal point for customers and OEMs, representing products and company capabilities.
• Investigate and resolve customer and field issues related to material performance or processing.
• Ensure full compliance with HSE and safety requirements.
