Job summary

City of Sioux City seeks an Automotive Mechanic I to maintain and repair light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles at the Central Maintenance Garage. Competitive benefits include medical, dental, life and retirement plans, plus generous paid leave.

Work hours are Monday–Friday 10:30am–7:00pm with on-call coverage and overtime during snow events. The role requires a Class A CDL with airbrake and tanker endorsements within six months, residency within 30 miles of Sioux City, and a written exam as

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 2–3 years of automotive/mechanics experience.

Responsibilities

• Overhaul and repair of automotive heavy trucks, engines, transmissions and motors.
• Repair of small engines and equipment.
• Respond to emergency service calls to repair equipment.
• Diagnose engine malfunctions using diagnostic systems.
• Perform routine maintenance, tune-ups, oil changes and brake repairs; change tires.
