Job description

  • Assists senior mechanics in performing comprehensive maintenance and repairs on a variety of combustion-powered vehicles.
  • Performs removal and replacement of standard automotive parts such as spark plugs, belts, hoses, brake shoes, water pumps, and mufflers under direct supervision.
  • Aids in making crucial vehicle settings and adjustments, including setting engine idle and timing, adjusting brakes, and gapping spark plugs.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by strictly observing all environmental, safety, and security protocols.
  • Utilizes standard and metric automotive hand and powered tools to complete repairs and maintenance tasks efficiently.

Requirements
Conditions of employment

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Currently have, or ability to obtain and provide to the employing office by the start of employment, a valid driver's license.
  • Must be physically able to perform work that requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching, crawling under vehicles, and working in tight spaces or tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Must be physically able to lift parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must be physically able to occasionally lift items 50 pounds or more with mechanical devices or with assistance from coworkers.
  • This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
  • A physical examination, arranged by the employer, is required prior to employment.
  • Must be willing to accept intermittent, on‑call employment.
  • Work schedule will be irregular, and the incumbent will be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or unique events.

A Qualified Candidate Must Possess The Following
  • possess a high school diploma or the equivalent from a trade school (MUST BE UPLOADED AT TIME OF APPLICATION), AND
  • possess creditable job related experience in automotive repair (MUST BE DISCOVERABLE IN YOUR RESUME), AND
  • possess six (6) months of progressively general experience AND a minimum of six (6) months of specialized experience in automotive work (MUST BE CLEARY IDENTIFIED WITH "MM/DD/YYYY - MM/DD/YYYY" IN YOUR RESUME), AND
  • have basic knowledge of automotive repair, AND
  • ability to use standard and metric automotive hand and powered tools, AND
  • ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Allowances and Differentials
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours a day or more than 40 hours a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. This is NOT a regularly scheduled Flexible position as it has no guaranteed hours. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours fall after 3:00 PM.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will NOT be paid.
