Job summary

The Department of Public Works Auto Maintenance Repair Shop of County of Kaua'i is seeking an Automotive Mechanic to perform journey-level inspections, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of light gasoline and diesel-powered motor vehicles and equipment. Work is in the shop and may include field troubleshooting as needed.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and 3.5 years of related repair experience, or successful completion of an approved apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 3 ½ years of motor-vehicle repair experience.
• Alternatively, completion of an approved apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, maintain, repair and overhaul light gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
• Disassemble/reassemble parts; overhaul engines, transmissions, brakes and steering systems.
• Perform minor welding, body and fender work; test drive vehicles after repair.

Education
