Job summary

SGS North America Inc. in New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support sample preparation and analysis following published test methods and SOPs, handling items such as DIY, paper, plastics, and shipping containers. You will perform destructive and non-destructive testing, record results, and operate lab equipment.

The role requires technical education or a degree in science/engineering, strong attention to detail, and basic computer skills. Compensation is hourly ($21.00–$28.00).

Qualifications

• Technical education, college coursework, or a degree in science, engineering, technology, or a related field is preferred.
• Previous laboratory, testing, manufacturing, engineering, quality, or technical experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, laboratory equipment, and instrumentation.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document and interpret test results.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn laboratory data-entry and reporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Sample preparation and analysis following published test methods and SOPs.
• Organize test samples including consumer goods such as DIY items, paper goods, plastic products and shipping containers.
• Prepare test specimens from submitted samples using hand tools and power tools.
• Perform both destructive and non-destructive physical testing on samples.
• Record test results in specified formats (handwritten, printouts, and data entry).
• Routine operation, maintenance, and validation of laboratory equipment and instruments.
