Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to join the Product Development team in the United States. This role focuses on applying ISO 26262 principles across vehicle technologies from concept to production.

You will collaborate with global teams to develop safety analyses, requirements, and supporting documentation, ensuring traceability and rigorous safety standards across systems.

Qualifications

• 2+ years engineering software-enabled vehicle systems experience.
• 2+ years in vehicle motion controls (powertrain, steering, brakes).
• 3+ years reading, interpreting, and authoring technical requirements.
• 4+ years applying systems engineering concepts in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with global Product Development teams to perform ISO 26262 safety analysis.
• Develop safety work products: safety analyses, ratings, concepts, and requirements.
• Identify hazards and support safe system design decisions with experts.
• Apply Ford safety processes, tools, and MBSE practices for traceability.
• Use MBSE/SysML to improve clarity and integration of safety analyses.
• Support common safety ratings, tools, and training across Ford engineers.
• Contribute to process improvements to balance speed and safety.
• Communicate conclusions clearly through documentation and reviews.
