Job summary

Verizon in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced automotive mechanic to maintain and repair fleet vehicles and equipment. You will diagnose problems, perform inspections, and ensure safety and reliability across the fleet.

The role requires CDL within 6 months, ASE certs welcome, and the ability to lift heavy loads; evenings and weekends may be required; onsite work at Verizon facilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience as a mechanic or related role.
  • CDL License or Commercial Learner's Permit (CDL required within 6 months).
  • Valid state driver's license with clean record.
  • Certificate for Air Brakes Inspection (Required within 6 months).
  • Certificate for MACS with assigned EPA number (Required within 6 months).
  • Tests must meet company standards.
  • Must meet safety-related requirements (OSHA, state agencies, etc.).
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of all types of motor vehicles and equipment in Verizon fleet.
  • Diagnose, maintain and repair company equipment, including aerial lifts, diggers, generators, tools, etc.
  • Use computer test equipment to diagnose vehicle problems.
  • Interface with vehicle users regarding repairs and questions.
  • Perform OSHA, ANSI, emissions, and state vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain fleet maintenance tracking records, parts inventory and time reporting.
  • Obtain and maintain all required certificates or licenses.
  • Work evenings, weekends, holidays and unscheduled shifts as needed.

What you'll be doing...

Keep our motors running!You'll have the chance to work on all types and sizes of vehicles, in addition to mobile tools and equipment. You'll keep our fleet vehicles in tip-top shape to ensure they're ready for anything.Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing maintenance and repair of all types of motor vehicles and special equipment in the Verizon fleet.
  • Diagnosing, maintaining and repairing all company associated equipment, including aerial lifts, diggers, generators, tools, etc.
  • Using computer test equipment to diagnose vehicle problems.
  • Interfacing with vehicle users regarding repairs, questions, etc.
  • Performing OSHA, ANSI, emissions, and state inspections on company vehicles.
  • Utilizing Fleet maintenance tracking computer systems to determine work assignments, record keeping, time reporting, parts inventory, etc.
  • Obtaining and maintaining all required certificates or licenses.
  • Working evenings, weekends, holidays and unscheduled shifts based on the needs of the business.
  • Work tour hours are 4am to 12:30pm, Monday through Friday (hours may vary). Overtime is as needed by the Company.

You'll need to have:

  • 5 or more years' experience as a mechanic or other relevant experience.
  • CDL License or Commercial Learner's Permit (CDL required within 6 months of hire).
  • Valid state driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Certificate for Air Brakes Inspection (Required within 6 months of hire).
  • Certificate for Mobile-Air Conditioning Society (MACS) with an assigned (EPA) number (Required within 6 months of hire).
  • Tests - Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.
  • Must meet safety-related requirements including but not limited to those standards of safety imposed by OSHA, state agencies, manufacturers and/or the company.
  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to, lifting, carrying and maneuvering heavy equipment up to 100 lbs.
  • Where a Commercial Driver's License is required, applicant must pass an alcohol and drug test.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Recent experience performing maintenance and repairs on diesel vehicles.
  • Current ASE Certifications.

The weekly wage range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full‑time schedule is: $776.50 - $1,868.50.
