Job summary

Verizon in Massachusetts seeks a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair fleet vehicles and equipment, ensuring readiness for operations. You will handle a variety of vehicles, use diagnostic tools, and coordinate with users on repairs.

The role requires CDL within 6 months, MA Safety Inspection licensure or access to it, and a valid driver’s license with a clean record. Evening shifts (3pm–11pm) and overtime may apply.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience as a mechanic or related field.
  • CDL License or Commercial Learner's Permit (CDL required within 6 months of hire).
  • MA State Safety Inspection License (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Valid state driver''s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Certificate for Air Brakes Inspection (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Certificate for handling automotive refrigerant (MACS with EPA number) (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Tests results must meet minimum requirements per Company policy.
  • Must meet OSHA/state/factory safety standards.
  • Able to perform physical tasks up to 100 lbs.
  • If CDL is required, pass alcohol/drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of all types of motor vehicles and equipment in Verizon fleet.
  • Diagnose and repair company equipment, including aerial lifts, diggers, generators, tools.
  • Use diagnostic test equipment to identify vehicle problems.
  • Interact with vehicle users regarding repairs and questions.
  • Perform state inspections and OSHA/ANSI-related checks on vehicles.
  • Maintain fleet maintenance records and inventory using systems.
  • Obtain and maintain required certificates/licenses.
  • Work evenings, weekends, holidays and unscheduled shifts as needed.
  • Work 3pm–11pm, Monday–Friday (hours may vary); overtime as needed.

What you'll be doing...

Keep our motors running!You have the chance to work on all types and sizes of vehicles, in addition to mobile tools and equipment. You'll keep our fleet vehicles in tip-top shape to ensure they're ready for anything.Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing maintenance and repair of all types of motor vehicles and special equipment in the Verizon fleet.

  • Diagnosing, maintaining and repairing all company associated equipment, including aerial lifts, diggers, generators, tools, etc.

  • Using computer test equipment to diagnose vehicle problems.

  • Interfacing with vehicle users regarding repairs, questions, etc.

  • Performing OSHA, ANSI, emissions, and state inspections on company vehicles.

  • Utilizing Fleet maintenance tracking computer systems to determine work assignments, record keeping, time reporting, parts inventory, etc.

  • Obtaining and maintaining all required certificates or licenses.

  • Working evenings, weekends, holidays and unscheduled shifts based on the needs of the business.

  • Work tour hours are 3pm to 11pm, Monday through Friday (hours may vary). Overtime is as needed by the Company.

You’ll need to have:
  • 5 or more years' experience as a mechanic or other relevant experience.

  • CDL License or Commercial Learner's Permit (CDL required within 6 months of hire).

  • MA State Safety Inspection License (or obtain within 6 months of hire).

  • Valid state driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

  • Certificate for Air Brakes Inspection (or obtain within 6 months of hire).

  • Certificate for handling automotive refrigerant, for example: Mobile-Air Conditioning Society (MACS) with an assigned (EPA) number (or obtain within 6 months of hire).

  • Tests - Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.

  • Must meet safety-related requirements including but not limited to those standards of safety imposed by OSHA, state agencies, manufacturers and/or the company.

  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to, lifting, carrying and maneuvering heavy equipment up to 100 lbs.

  • Where a Commercial Driver's License is required, applicant must pass an alcohol and drug test.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Recent experience performing maintenance and repairs on diesel vehicles.

  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics, including the ability to identify, troubleshoot, or service basic fluid power systems.
