Job summary

Summit Truck Bodies is seeking an Automotive Electrical Designer to create, develop, and test electrical systems for our service trucks, focusing on wiring, control modules, safety features and automation.

The role involves CAD work (AutoCAD, Inventor), electrical schematics, load studies, and code compliance to ensure reliable, safe designs across high-quality truck bodies. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate of Applied Science preferred.
• Experience in ISO 9001 production facility preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault and NetSuite preferred.
• Experience with Bill of Materials preferred.
• Fast-paced or multi-entity environment experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Create electrical layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams with emphasis on DC circuits.
• Select electrical components and equipment for projects.
• Train technicians to read and understand electrical schematics.
• Perform load calculations and power studies for electrical needs.
• Identify and resolve design issues during project life cycle.
• Produce wiring diagrams and layouts that meet standards and specs.
• Use CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor) to modify circuits and ensure code compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create electrical layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams using CAD software with a primary emphasis on DC circuits.
• Choose appropriate electrical components, materials, and equipment for the project.
• Ability to discuss and train/teach technicians how to read and understand electrical schematics.
• Perform load calculations and power studies to determine electrical needs.
• Identify and resolve design issues during the project life cycle.
• Create precise wiring diagrams, schematics, and layouts that meet standards and specifications.
• Daily tasks to include using CAD software (like AutoCAD and Inventor), modifying circuits, ensuring code compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

• Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
• Requires frequent standing, sitting, bending or stooping for prolonged periods.
• Ability to communicate by providing verbal/written feedback in a professional manner.
• Normal range of hearing and vision.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Associate of Applied Science preferred
• Experience working in a ISO 9001 certified production facility preferred
• Experience in AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault and NetSuite preferred
• Experience with Bill of Materials preferred
• Experience working in a fast-paced or multi-entity environment.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Strong organization skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to successfully complete a General Abilities Assessment and pass a post-offer background check, physical and drug screening.
