Job summary

SR Prime Auto in Lehi, Utah seeks an experienced Automotive Dealership Controller / Accounting Manager to oversee all financial and accounting operations. This role goes beyond bookkeeping, requiring full responsibility for reporting, taxes, inventory, flooring, banking reconciliations, expenses, and profitability for the dealership.

You will work directly with ownership to maintain a clear, accurate financial picture and ensure deadlines are met.

Qualifications

• Automotive dealership accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience as a Dealership Controller or Accounting Manager preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Profit & Loss statements and financial reporting.
• Experience with dealership inventory accounting.
• Knowledge of sales tax reporting and account reconciliation.
• Excellent Excel or Google Sheets skills.
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
• High integrity and confidentiality; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Maintain complete dealership accounting records.
• Prepare monthly and year-to-date Profit & Loss statements.
• Track revenue, expenses, gross profit, and net profit.
• Track profit and cost for every vehicle sold.
• Maintain vehicle inventory accounting.
• Track vehicle purchase price, auction fees, transportation, repairs, reconditioning, and other costs.
• Reconcile sold vehicles and dealership inventory.
• Manage and reconcile floorplan / flooring accounts.
• Track flooring payment and payoff due dates.
• Monitor flooring interest, fees, and outstanding balances.
• Prepare and reconcile Utah sales tax reporting.
• Track out-of-state and tax-exempt vehicle sales.
• Maintain documentation required for tax reporting and audits.
• Reconcile dealership bank accounts, credit cards, deposits, and payments.
• Track accounts payable and dealership vendors.
• Review sold vehicle files for financial accuracy.
• Maintain organized records for vehicle purchases and sales.
• Track dealership advertising and recurring expenses.
• Prepare financial reports for ownership.
• Coordinate with CPA and tax professionals when necessary.
• Identify accounting discrepancies and missing documentation.
• Ensure deadlines, taxes, payments, and financial obligations are completed on time.

SR Prime Auto is looking for an experienced Automotive Dealership Controller / Accounting Manager to oversee the complete financial and accounting operations of our dealership.

This is not a basic bookkeeping position. We are looking for someone who can take full responsibility for dealership accounting, financial reporting, taxes, vehicle inventory accounting, flooring accounts, banking reconciliation, expenses, and profitability reporting.

Qualifications

• Automotive dealership accounting experience strongly preferred
• Previous experience as a Dealership Controller, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, or Automotive Office Manager preferred
• Strong knowledge of Profit & Loss statements and financial reporting
• Experience with dealership inventory accounting
• Experience with floorplan / flooring reconciliation preferred
• Knowledge of sales tax reporting and account reconciliation
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities
• High level of integrity and confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of the dealership’s financial operations

CPA license is not required. Automotive dealership experience and strong accounting knowledge are more important.

Compensation: $80,000–$110,000 per year, depending on experience.

We are looking for a long-term team member who wants to take ownership of the financial and accounting side of a growing automotive dealership.

The right person should be able to clearly tell ownership at any time:

• How much the dealership made
• How much profit was made on each vehicle
• What our current inventory value is
• How much is owed on flooring
• Which payments are coming due
• How much sales tax is owed
• Where expenses are increasing
• Whether any records or documentation are missing

Exceptional candidates with extensive automotive dealership controller experience may be considered for higher compensation.
