Job summary

Automotive Search Group in the Toledo area is seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to lead a long-standing family-owned dealership. You will take over a clean set of books, oversee GAAP accounting, HR and payroll, and partner with the Dealer Principal on strategic financial decisions.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Automotive Controller in a dealership environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all dealership accounting functions, including month-end, year-end, and financial reporting
• Monitor daily operating control reports and identify variances.
• Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
• Oversee and maintain internal controls to prevent fraud and ensure data accuracy.
• Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations, and floorplan accounts.
• Review and manage dealership expenses and vendor contracts.
• Train, develop, and manage accounting personnel.
• Handle HR functions, including payroll
• Expense analysis
• Coordinate with department managers to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
• Submit required factory reports and ensure compliance with franchise agreements.
• Ensure dealership accounting complies with GAAP, IRS guidelines, and manufacturer requirements.
• Review and manage dealership expenses
• Partner with upper management on strategic planning and financial decision‑making
• Maintain regular communication with the Dealer Principal on the standings of the dealership, cost saving measures, and any issues that may require their attention
• Other duties as assigned

Automotive Controller – Family-Owned Dealership - Toledo, OH area

A well-established, family-owned dealership in the Toledo, OH market is seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to step into a long-term leadership role. The current Controller is retiring after a successful career with the organization, and the incoming candidate will take over a clean set of books and a well-structured office environment. It is imperative that the person hired as a strong and stable track record in automotive accounting and understands the "why" behind the numbers.

Moreover, this position requires a highly trustworthy Automotive Controller with a strong sense of urgency, the ability to perform under pressure, and the leadership skills to oversee critical accounting and administrative functions. The Controller hired will work closely with the Dealer Principal and will be entrusted with maintaining the financial integrity of the operation. This position reports directly to the Dealer Principal who is looking for a Controller that is a true business partner and another set of eyes and ears around the dealership. The Controller will also be responsible to handle HR and payroll functions for the dealership.
