Advantage Technical in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking a Software Engineer - Automotive to lead controls improvements on the plant floor. You will develop and implement solutions for automation, PLC/CNC software, and integration with plant IT platforms.

This role requires 5+ years of related experience, leadership, and strong communication to coordinate with maintenance and process teams. Experience with Siemens, Rexroth, and Allen Bradley PLCs, TA/TIA Portal, and a Lean mindset are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of related experience with PLC/CNC and controls software.
• Strong leadership, teambuilding, and communication skills.
• Ability to work with maintenance and process teams.
• Microsoft Office familiarity.
• PLC controller experience (Siemens, Rexroth, Allen Bradley).

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement controls improvements using plant monitoring software.
• Lead troubleshooting to find root cause and resolve performance issues.
• Coordinate resources and break problems into action items.
• Train manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.
• Integrate equipment into plant IT platforms and quality tools.
• Troubleshoot machinery, robotics, automation, and downtime issues.
• Review installations; reprogram equipment for engineering changes.
• Maintain backups for automation and robotics installations.
• Participate in equipment safety risk assessments.
