Job summary

AbbVie in North Chicago, IL is seeking a Sr. Automation Engineer to lead automation projects within the Strategic Capital Deployment program. You will drive schedules, risk management, and reporting for automation initiatives on large-scale manufacturing projects.

The role requires a decade of experience building and validating automation software and PLC systems in manufacturing, with familiarity in AI/ML and CFR Part 11 compliance. You will act as SME and mentor cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
10+ years crafting automation software, PLC systems in a manufacturing environment; AI/ML experience.
Experience with system development, validation, URS/FS and risk-based validation.
Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 for automated systems in pharma/medical devices.
Strong problem solving and innovative thinking to implement solutions.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage external vendors.

Responsibilities

Identify opportunities for automation improvements to Manufacturing productivity, quality, and EHS.
Technical lead for automation equipment and control system design, including requirements, testing, vendor management, and integration.
SME for automation technologies related to new products and processes.
Lifecycle management of on-site control systems.
Provide technical support for control system issues and optimization.
