Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a hardware test engineer in New Jersey to develop automated test programs and fixtures for new and existing products. You will design PC-based and stand-alone test systems, read electrical schematics, and contribute to test reports and data analysis.

The role emphasizes implementing production test systems, ensuring quality, and supporting compliance efforts in a fast-paced environment. Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years in electronic hardware testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of electronic hardware engineering experience.
• Demonstrated capability of implementing production test systems utilizing automated programs such as LabView.
• Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics.
• Knowledge on packaging, production planning, manufacturing methods and procedures, manufacturing quality, process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Develop automated functional test programs for new and existing products.
• Develop tests for PC based and stand-alone test equipment; design and build test jigs/stations and integrate them into the test system.
• Review open issues and coordinate actions; contribute information and analysis to team meetings and reports.
• Prepare test reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing measurement data and trends.
• Track emerging engineering practices and participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
• Test software releases during product development; report results and log issues in the bug database.
• Assist compliance by designing and testing setups for approval applications; file Declarations of Conformity and maintain compliance database.
