Job summary

Lone Star Corporation is seeking an Automation Technician to lead field installs and maintenance of automation systems in the Oil & Gas sector. The role focuses on implementing and adjusting RTU/PLC configurations to meet current needs, with emphasis on field instrumentation and remote communications.

This full-time position requires a background in automation, instrumentation, or process controls, valid driver's license, and willingness to travel or standby as required.

Qualifications

  • 2 years in automation, instrumentation, or process controls technician
  • Ability to read blueprints, PFDs, and P&IDs
  • Technical degree preferred
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Willingness to travel and be on-call on weekends

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate field labor with Automation and SCADA Engineers.
  • Understand P&IDs, electrical processes, and cause & effect matrices.
  • Implement and maintain remote communications equipment (radios, cell modems).
  • Monitor SCADA systems to identify issues with field instruments or hardware.
  • Calibrate and verify field instruments for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting from the field.
  • Provide on-call support to clients' automation and SCADA systems.

Job description

Automation Technician

Lone Star Corporation is searching for a full time Automation Technician. The technician will be responsible for leading the implementation and maintenance of various automation installs in the Oil and Gas Industry. This position will primarily execute field installs of various automation instruments/transmitters as well as download, troubleshoot, and modify RTU and PLC configurations to fit the current need.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct independent work to coordinate field labor with Automation and SCADA Engineers.
  • Understanding of P&IDs, electrical processes, and cause & effect matrix.
  • Implement and maintain remote communications equipment (900Mhz 5.8Ghz Radios, cell modems).
  • Regular monitoring of SCADA systems or other control systems to determine potential problems with field instruments or hardware
  • Calibration and verification of field instruments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist Automation and SCADA engineers in troubleshooting of systems from the field.
  • Provide on-call support to various clients' automation and SCADA systems.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Controller Experience: RTU's, EFM's, VFD's, PLC Programming (Fisher ROC, Modicon, Idec, ScadaPack, Allen Bradley)
  • Instrumentation Experience: Pressure, Flow, Temperature, Level, Actuated Valves, etc.
  • Communication Protocols: TCP/IP, RS232 Serial, Modbus, HART
  • Radio Communications: Freewave, GE MDS, Cambium, Ubiquiti
  • Moderate electrical skills: 120VAC, 12-24VDC
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints, PFD's, and P&IDs
  • Oil & Gas: 2 years (Required)
  • Process Controls: 2 years (Required)
Position Requirements
  • 2 years' experience as an automation, instrumentation, or process controls technician
  • Completion of technical degree given preference (Computer Science, Electrical, Networking, etc.).
  • Required: Valid Driver's License
  • Schedule Mon Fri and must open availability on weekends and must be willing to travel as work is subject to stand-by, pre-arranged and/or call-out duty
