Job Description
Automation Tech I assists in performing a variety of duties related to the repair of automated systems. This includes maintaining, diagnosing, and correcting micro-processor functions related to AC and DC motor controls, automated control systems, and associated peripheral equipment providing process control. The individual is responsible for ensuring safety for self and others, taking necessary precautions, and following prescribed safety procedures and good housekeeping practices.

Job Duties Also Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Assisting and performing work on electro/pneumatic/digital/variable frequency drive control systems and related equipment.
  • Developing control logic for automated systems, including PLC, DCS, and VFD systems.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical/electronic wiring diagrams and staying updated on new techniques.
  • Locating, diagnosing, and correcting problems in automation control and peripheral systems efficiently, following manufacturer instructions.
  • Using various tools and testing equipment, such as amp meters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, digital meters, and system interfaces.
  • Maintaining records and logbooks on equipment performance and operation.
  • Assisting other technicians and engineers as directed.
  • Assembling and repairing PC-based systems and learning related software.
  • Participating in crew assignments based on job and skill requirements.
  • Developing documentation for new projects or updates.
  • Assisting with start-up of new or upgraded systems.
  • Participating in training for fire safety and emergency procedures.
  • Performing other related duties and working with other crafts and personnel as needed.

Qualifications
A two-year associate degree in electronics, electrical, automation, or a similar field is required, or at least three years of experience as an industrial electrician, instrument multicraft technician, or control technician. PLC experience with GE Rockwell or similar is preferred. The candidate must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily.
