Job summary

DistributionNOW seeks an Automation Technician I to support installation and preventative maintenance of industrial control and automation systems. Under supervision, you perform basic wiring, inspections, panel prep, equipment cleaning, and troubleshooting while learning from senior personnel and upholding safety and quality standards.

This role emphasizes on-site collaboration across control panels, PLC cabinets, sensors, and field wiring.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of control panels, PLC cabinets, sensors, and field wiring.
  • Willingness to learn diagnostic tools and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to assist senior personnel and perform routine duties under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic preventive maintenance on control panels, PLC cabinets, sensors, and field wiring.
  • Assist with installation of automation components, instrumentation, and control hardware.
  • Support cable routing, conduit work, terminations, labeling, and panel preparation.
  • Conduct equipment cleaning, visual inspections, and basic documentation updates.
  • Learn to use diagnostic tools, test meters, and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Assist in resolving simple wiring or component issues under direction.
  • Complete service reports and maintain accurate work documentation.
  • Follow safety procedures and company standards.

The Automation Technician I supports the installation and preventative maintenance of industrial control and automation systems. Performs basic wiring, inspections, panel preparation, equipment cleaning, and troubleshooting under supervision while assisting senior personnel and following safety and quality standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performing basic preventative maintenance on control panels, PLC cabinets, sensors, and field wiring
  • Assisting with installation of automation components, instrumentation, and control hardware
  • Supporting cable routing, conduit work, terminations, labeling, and panel preparation
  • Conducting equipment cleaning, visual inspections, and basic documentation updates
  • Learning to use diagnostic tools, test meters, and basic troubleshooting techniques
  • Assisting in resolving simple wiring or component issues under direction
  • Completing service reports and maintaining accurate work documentation
  • Following all safety procedures and company standards
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to assist senior personnel and perform routine duties under close supervision
  • Willingness to learn diagnostic tools, test meters, and basic troubleshooting techniques
  • Basic understanding of control panels, PLC cabinets, sensors, and field wiring (or willingness to learn)
  • Ability to support installation activities including cable routing, conduit work, and terminations
  • Strong attention to detail for documentation, labeling, and reporting
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and company standards at all times
  • Commitment to foundational skill development and progression to higher-level automation responsibilities
