Job summary

Eli Lilly and Company is seeking a Day Shift Automation Technician to support Device Assembly and Packaging at the Concord site. You will oversee automated equipment, provide first-line production support, and contribute to process improvements while ensuring safety and quality standards.

The role requires hands-on experience with Instrumentation, PLC/ HMI programming, and modern automation tools (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE). A GMP background and strong documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with instrumentation, PLC and/or HMI programming.
  • Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View SE programming experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel; able to write technical documents.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot automated equipment to ensure safe, compliant production.
  • Support process engineering initiatives, improvements, and project implementations.
  • Assist with commissioning, qualification, and validation activities for equipment.
  • Provide technical support to engineering, including issue investigation and resolution to minimize production delays.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors; maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Develop maintenance action plans and participate in periodic equipment reviews.

Responsibilities

The Day Shift Automation Technician for our Device Assembly, and Packaging area is responsible for automated equipment performance, providing first-line support to production processes, as well as supporting area engineering initiatives, process improvements, and project implementation. This position will require the development of expertise in production processes, commissioning, qualification, and validation requirements and equipment-specific code and/or control system technologies. The Automation Technician will help ensure that equipment is maintained in a qualified state, can be operated safely, and maintenance is properly performed on the systems (performing maintenance activities on equipment is not in the scope of this position)

Key Objectives/Deliverables
  • Assure that operational and maintenance procedures and practices reflect safety concerns.
  • Perform activities in accordance with cGMPs and applicable procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality using equipment performance data and by assuring maintenance is performed appropriately.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels to ensure all projects and repairs are well planned and coordinated with minimal disruption to that area involved.
  • Working with the process team, including engineers and operations personnel, participate in and sometimes lead the development of equipment design, procedures, engineering studies, and maintenance practices that will enable the process to operate as required.
  • Seek out and identify opportunities to improve equipment operational effectiveness and reliability.
  • Provide technical support to engineering in:
    • Investigating and resolving issues that create production delays
    • Transferring knowledge of equipment capabilities and operational techniques to operators, engineering, and maintenance.
    • Implementing tools for operations and engineering to learn and work more proficiently.
    • Contractors and vendor coordination.
    • Create maintenance action plans as needed to support maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
    • Participate in periodic reviews of equipment state.
    • Plan and execute small projects for process or equipment improvements or changes.
Minimum Requirements
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
  • Highschool Degree/ GED
Additional Preferences
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely in a participative environment.
  • Experience in a GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in instrumentation, PLC and/or HMI programming.
  • Studio 5000 and Factory talk view SE programming experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; proficient at typing and writing technical documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and attention to detail and ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and communications skills with a customer service attitude.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, working safely and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site Goals.
  • Previous experience with highly automated equipment
  • Experience with B&R platform is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Parenteral equipment and manufacturing operations
  • Experience with Maximo or similar computerized maintenance management system.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$21.27 - $41.25

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
