Job summary

3M HEALTHCARE DAYTON MIX CENTER is seeking a skilled automation technician to maintain and troubleshoot our automated equipment, including autonomous robots used for case, layer, and pallet movements. You will perform preventive maintenance, calibrations, and drive improvements in production systems.

You will analyze trends, resolve mechanical issues, and help build technical skills across the team while adapting to rotating shifts in a 24/7 operations environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with technical manufacturing exp preferred.
  • Solid mechanical skills and knowledge of common industrial machinery.
  • Ability to use a wide range of tools, diagnostics, and precision instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot automated equipment including robots for case, layer, and pallet movements.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and calibrations on equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and improve equipment and systems.

Pay

Starting base pay is $22.95. After successfully completing probation, base pay increases to $26.60.

Operations Schedule

This site operates continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Scope of Work

Automation technicians perform various types of work, such as:

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting automated equipment, including autonomous robots responsible for case, layer, and pallet movements
  • Performing preventive maintenance and calibrations on equipment
  • Troubleshooting, monitoring, and improving equipment and systems
  • Analyzing trends and technical data to gain insights and identify issues proactively
  • Building technical skills in others
Work Hours

Able to work 8‑hour shifts, shifts may vary.

Shift Schedules
  • Rotating Shift – 1‑1‑1‑2 Monday‑Friday (1st shift 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., 2nd shift 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.)
  • Straight Second Shift – 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Monday‑Friday
  • Straight Third Shift – 10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. Sunday‑Thursday
Flexibility & Overtime

Technicians may work rotating shifts. Overtime may be required on weekends and/or holidays.

Job Description

Mechanically skilled technicians are hired as skilled members of our warehouse operations teams. They reduce equipment downtime, troubleshoot mechanical and systematic issues, eliminate defects, and build technical mastery. They focus on initiating and implementing continuous improvement projects with the goal of delivering the best product at the lowest cost, with the highest quality, on time, every time, and in a safe environment. They have mechanical technical mastery to successfully troubleshoot problems and proactively improve production systems. They may become equipment area owners, creating processes and designs to improve area performance.

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED and 2‑years of technical experience in manufacturing or a similar industry preferred
  • Applied mechanical skills in an industrial environment
  • Knowledge of different types of machinery and equipment commonly used in manufacturing, including engines, pumps, compressors, conveyors, gears, bearings, and other mechanical components
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of tools and instruments, including hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and precision instruments for disassembly, assembly, measurement, alignment, and testing
  • Understanding of system integration, control mechanisms, automation, and interconnections with electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems
  • Strong technical troubleshooting, problem‑solving, issue resolution, and root cause analysis for mechanical issues
  • Interpersonal and teamwork skills

Successful completion of a Technical Interview will be required as part of the application process. Upon hire, you will be expected to remain in the ALPS department for at least 18 months before being eligible for roles in alternate departments.
