Jack Link’s Inc. is seeking a Maintenance – Automation Technician to ensure all automated machines run efficiently and safely. The role involves troubleshooting, stopping production when required, and applying extensive knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, systems, and PLCs.

The position emphasizes adherence to GMP/HACCP SOPs, documentation, and continuous improvement of equipment performance. This is a hands-on role in a manufacturing plant with travel between facilities possible.

Qualifications

• Some college level training in Electronics Technology or similar
• Associate degree in related technology field preferred
• 1 year of experience in a distribution center
• 1 year of training experience or a combination of education and experience
• ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) experience

Responsibilities

• Load product into machines for startup readiness
• Set up lines correctly
• Ensure cartoner, case erector, and robotic palletizer operate effectively
• Follow GMP and HACCP training and SOPs
• Manage start-up to ensure equipment is in proper operating condition
• Perform start-of-shift checks and document product changes
• Move and install plant machinery and equipment as needed
• Conduct preventative maintenance as scheduled
• Provide detailed troubleshooting and repair descriptions on a PC-based system
• Utilize pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical systems

Job Description

The Maintenance – Automation Technician ensures all automated machines run effectively. The role involves stopping production when machines are not operating, troubleshooting problems, and finding solutions quickly. The Technician should have extensive knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, systems, and a working knowledge of PLCs. This position will be carried out in accordance with all company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Load product into machines as needed to get ready for startup.
• Set up lines correctly.
• Ensure cartoner, case erector, and robotic palletizer are operating effectively.
• Follow good manufacturing practices and HACCP training, along with company SOPs.
• Manage start‑up to make sure equipment is in proper operating condition.
• Perform necessary checks at start of shift and at each new product changeover; document on paperwork, code date, correct label, upper/lower film, etc.
• Move and install plant machinery and equipment as needed.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all plant machinery and equipment as scheduled.
• Provide detailed descriptions related to troubleshooting and repair of equipment on a PC‑based system.
• Use extensive experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical, electronic equipment.
• Ensure product conforms to specifications.
• Ensure products are correctly labeled and identified for proper disposition.
• Prevent/minimize rework and/or inedible product.
• Monitor workflow to maximize machine output efficiencies.
• Keep accurate records of products produced and materials used.
• Suggest improvements and continuously improve the quality of all support activities.
• Tasks will vary as situations and demands change; the lead/foreman/supervisor will assign tasks as necessary.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Required Education and Experience

Some college level training in Electronics Technology or a similar technical field; combination of experience and skilled trade programs or military training is acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree in a related technology field.
• One year of experience in a distribution center.
• One year of training experience or a combination of education and experience.
• ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) experience.

Additional Information

Starting rate: $23.42–$29.28 hourly. Actual salaries may vary by market data, location, and experience. In addition to base pay, compensation may include annual incentives and program‑specific awards.

Physical Demands

The position requires standing, walking, bending, squatting, and reaching. Employees may frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Other duties include exposure to the odor and contact of beef jerky, spices, and sauces.

Work Environment

The work environment is a plant/office setting with varying temperatures and noise levels. Employees may encounter manufacturing equipment movement and wet/slippery floors. Work may involve roof maintenance and inclement weather. Travel to other facilities may be required.
