Job Overview

Airgas, a leading supplier of industrial, medical, and specialty gases and related products, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Automation Technician to install, service, and maintain CNC plasma and arc welding robotic systems, specifically those utilizing Hypertherm cutting systems and robotic arms from OTC and Yaskawa. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities
  • System Integration – Install, configure, and program controlled automation CNC plasma cutting equipment and arc welding robotic systems (OTC and Yaskawa).
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting – Perform expert‑level preventative maintenance and diagnostic repairs on electrical/electronic components (sensors, motors, high‑performance drives), mechanical components (precision gears, bearings, linkages), fluid power systems (pneumatic and hydraulic), and cutting technology (Hypertherm systems).
  • Technical Support – Diagnose and resolve software and hardware malfunctions related to robotic controllers and plasma power sources.
  • Training & Documentation – Provide comprehensive on‑site operator training and generate detailed service reports.
  • Business Development – Collaborate with Account Managers to identify and sell preventative maintenance contracts; develop accurate estimates, quotes, and proposals; partner with sales to expand gas and welding supply footprints.
Travel & Logistics
  • Travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight stays.
  • Company support: vehicle, laptop and smartphone, per diem covering all meals and travel expenses.
Qualifications
  • Required: Experienced in any electro‑mechanical technology.
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues to customers and work effectively with the internal sales force.
  • Absolute commitment to adhering to all OSHA and site‑specific safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with controlled automation CNC systems and robotic platforms (Yaskawa/OTC).
  • Strong proficiency in troubleshooting electromechanical systems and deep understanding of Hypertherm plasma technology.
  • Solid grasp of various welding processes.
Physical & Professional Demands
  • Ability to work in industrial environments (heat, noise, dust).
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Must be able to meet travel requirements.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in robotic and thermal cutting technologies.
