Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent (100% On-Site)
Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive Automation Technician to optimize, support, and maintain automated systems across our Minneapolis manufacturing facility. In this role, you will be the frontline technical expert responsible for minimizing downtime, commissioning custom equipment, and fine-tuning robotic cells and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
If you thrive on hands-on troubleshooting, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous operational improvement in a fast-paced production environment, this role offers an immediate platform to showcase your technical skills.
Core Responsibilities
- Robotics Integration & Optimization: Configure, teach, and optimize end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), sprue pickers, and multi-axis articulated robots (specifically Fanuc 6-axis systems) on active injection molding production lines.
- Controls & Electrical Diagnostics: Troubleshoot, debug, and modify PLC ladder logic, HMI interfaces, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and machine vision platforms across key industrial brands (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Fanuc, Cognex, Arburg, Maple Systems, and Delta).
- Custom Assembly & Mechanical Rigging: Read complex electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical blueprints to build, wire, and deploy custom automation machinery directly onto the shop floor.
- Component-Level Maintenance: Diagnose and repair critical field devices, including relay logic networks, safety interlocks, photo-eyes, proximity sensors, solenoids, limit switches, and motor starters.
- Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Maintain accurate logs of program changes, maintenance interventions, and equipment setup parameters using MS Office tools to support standard operating procedures.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience: 2+ years of dedicated, hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs and industrial robots in a manufacturing environment.
- Blueprint Reading: Demonstrated capability to interpret multi-disciplinary schematics (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical).
- Technical Breadth: Direct exposure to sensors, motor controls, VFDs, and industrial safety circuits.
- Computer Literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) for operational reporting and technical documentation.
- Soft Skills: Clear verbal communication, methodical problem-solving ability, and a collaborative team mindset.
Preferred:
- Education: Associate degree (A.A.S.) or vocational certification in Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Fluid Power Technology, Electrical Systems, or a related field.
- Domain Expertise: Prior background in plastic injection molding processes and related auxiliary automation.
