Job summary

PeopleShare is seeking an Industrial Automation Technician for our Buffalo Grove client, a global leader in advanced manufacturing. The role supports highly automated production equipment on the 2nd shift (6:00 PM–6:00 AM) to maximize uptime and minimize downtime.

You will troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems, perform electrical/mechanical repairs, read schematics, and participate in preventive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical Technology, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in high-volume, low-mix manufacturing environments.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair automated manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to maximize reliability.
  • Read and interpret electrical/mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Support startups, changes, and new equipment installations.

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 2nd Shift | 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Pay: $30.00–$40.00/hour DOE Employment Type: Full-Time

Our client, a global leader in advanced manufacturing, is looking for an experienced Industrial Automation Technician to support highly automated production equipment in their Buffalo Grove facility.

This is a hands-on troubleshooting role supporting a high-volume, low-mix manufacturing environment, where maximizing equipment uptime, machine diagnostics, equipment reliability, and minimizing production downtime are critical to success.

We're looking for technicians with experience in Electronics Manufacturing, Medical Device Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Aerospace Manufacturing, Automotive Manufacturing, Packaging Manufacturing, Plastics Manufacturing, Industrial Manufacturing, or other high-volume, low-mix manufacturing environments who enjoy solving complex equipment problems and keeping production running safely and efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair automated manufacturing equipment and production systems.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs.
  • Diagnose machine failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize production downtime.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment and automated systems.
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot using electrical schematics, mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Replace motors, sensors, drives, relays, actuators, bearings, valves, and other automation components.
  • Analyze equipment performance and partner with Engineering to improve equipment reliability and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support equipment startups, engineering changes, automation improvements, and new equipment installations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, technical documentation, and equipment history.
  • Train and support operators and fellow technicians as needed.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical Technology, or equivalent military, vocational, or hands-on experience.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment (additional experience is highly valued).
  • Previous experience supporting automated equipment in a high-volume, low-mix manufacturing environment where minimizing equipment downtime was a primary responsibility.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong machine diagnostics and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot using electrical schematics, mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose equipment failures and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds while safely working around automated manufacturing equipment and electrical systems.
