Job summary

RTX is seeking an Automation Engineer in the United States to join the manufacturing automation team onsite. You will learn alongside experienced engineers, support development of digital solutions, and help maintain and troubleshoot automation systems across production lines.

The role emphasizes hands-on learning in a manufacturing environment, documenting changes, and participating in system commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, or pneumatic systems and reading drawings/schematics.
  • Hands-on manufacturing environment experience and ability to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and support development of manufacturing automation and digital solutions.
  • Maintain, improve, and troubleshoot existing automation systems under guidance.
  • Troubleshoot production automation equipment and connected factory systems.
  • Participate in full lifecycle of automation projects to gain hands-on experience.
  • Document automation systems, test changes, and support system commissioning.

What You Will Do
  • Work alongside experienced automation engineers to learn and support the development of manufacturing automation and digital solutions
  • Help maintain, improve, and troubleshoot existing automation systems under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving issues on production automation equipment and connected factory systems
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of automation projects to gain hands‑on experience
  • Assist with documenting automation systems, testing changes, and supporting system commissioning
Qualifications – You Must Have
  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, or pneumatic systems and reading technical drawings and schematics
  • Experience learning new technologies in a hands‑on manufacturing environment
Qualifications – We Prefer
  • Exposure to Ignition, SCADA, or HMI development
  • Exposure to Cognex and/or Keyence vision systems
  • Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages
  • Interest in data analysis, digital manufacturing, or Industry 4.0 concepts
  • Experience with control systems design (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Knowledge of safety fundamentals (OSHA, NFPA, or machine safety concepts)
  • Strong communication skills and a desire to grow within an automation engineering career path
  • Active DOD Secret Clearance

Location and Work Arrangement

This position is classified as: Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on‑site, hybrid or remote.

The salary range for this role is 62,000 USD - 118,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short‑term and/or long‑term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
