  • Understanding of motor control circuits and VFDs.

Responsibilities

  • Design industrial control systems, including hardware and software selection.
  • Create electrical and mechanical drawings and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications.
  • Configure industrial communication networks and related system infrastructure.
  • Perform system startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Review and analyze existing automation systems and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and customers to understand requirements.
  • Translate customer and technical specifications into automation solutions and code.
  • Develop data migration tools and processes for upgrades and new implementations.
  • Establish testing environments and execute comprehensive testing.
  • Participate in technical and project meetings and provide status updates.
  • Deliver technical support and training to end users and customers.
  • Prepare technical documentation and project records.

Job description

ICS Online. The Automation Specialist is responsible for delivering industrial control and information system solutions that meet client requirements. This role supports the design, development, implementation, testing, commissioning, and ongoing support of automation systems and related technologies. The successful candidate will work independently and collaboratively to design control systems, program PLC and HMI applications, configure industrial networks, and support system startup and troubleshooting activities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Design industrial control systems, including hardware and software selection.
  • Create electrical and mechanical drawings and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications.
  • Configure industrial communication networks and related system infrastructure.
  • Perform system startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Review and analyze existing automation systems and recommend improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with system analysts, engineers, and customers to understand business and operational requirements.
  • Translate customer and technical specifications into functional automation solutions and software code.
  • Develop data migration tools and processes to support system upgrades and new implementations.
  • Establish testing environments and execute comprehensive testing to identify and resolve software and system issues.
  • Participate in technical and project meetings and provide regular project status updates.
  • Deliver technical support and training to end users and customers.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and project records as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Controls Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Experience with industrial control systems, automation technologies, and information systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks, databases, PLCs, HMIs, and/or SCADA systems.
  • Experience with industrial electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Understanding of motor control circuits and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • High level of initiative, dedication, and self-motivation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC-5, and SLC 500 platforms.
  • Experience with Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk View SE, and FactoryTalk View ME.
  • Experience with database development and integration.
  • Familiarity with Visual C++ programming.
  • Experience commissioning automation systems in industrial environments.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Ability to travel to customer sites and navigate industrial environments safely.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and read electrical schematics and technical drawings.
Work Environment
  • Combination of office, manufacturing, and customer site environments.
  • Frequent interaction with electrical equipment, industrial control systems, and field installations.
  • Occasional travel may be required for commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support.
  • Must comply with all company safety requirements and customer site safety policies.

This position is non-exempt. Compensation is dependent on skill level. The base salary range for this position is between $73,000 and $94,000 annually. Benefits package and incentives are provided. We generally offer employees working 21 hours per work or more medical, dental, vision, along with voluntary ancillary benefits. The Company has a 401(k)-match program and has company-paid life and AD&D insurance available for eligible employees.
