Job summary

Hilcorp Energy Company is seeking an Automation/SCADA engineer to assist with the design, maintenance, and operation of field automation systems on the North Slope of Alaska. You will program PLCs (Allen-Bradley, GE, Modicon), develop HMI/DCS applications, configure networks and databases, and support instrument and electrical teams with troubleshooting.

This role requires strong communication, ability to work 14/14 day rotations, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring adherence to corporate SCADA

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field with 3 years of applicable experience.
• Or an Associate’s Degree with 5 years of progressive SCADA/automation experience.
• Or seven years of progressively responsible Industrial Process Control/SCADA/OT experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design, maintenance and operation of Automation/SCADA systems for field operations.
• Program and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley, GE, Modicon) and HMI/DCS apps.
• Coordinate standards and documentation for automation systems; mentor junior staff.
• Read drawings and P&IDs; set up secure process control networks and OT communications.

Job description

Job Objective:Assists with the technical work in the administration, maintenance, and operation of Automation/SCADA, distributed control, telemetry input, and computer systems for field operations.Essential Job Responsibilities:Strong working knowledge of Industrial Automation/SCADA architecture design including control, measurement and safety systems for oil and gas production facilities.Work with field Instrumentation and Electrical Team assisting with troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial controls-related equipment.Design and manage control system and SCADA related projects.Keep abreast of new Automation/SCADA related developments and technology in areas such as equipment, software, government regulations, PCN cybersecurity, and communications.Program and troubleshoot PLC based control systems including Allen-Bradley (PLC 5, SLC, Control Logix), GE and Modicon.Design, Program, and Troubleshoot HMI/DCS applications to include graphical design, scripting, and database queries on platforms including Wonderware, GE iFIX and Honeywell Experion.Set up and maintain process control networks using Ethernet, OPC, Modbus, ControlNet and other Automation specific protocols.Read, understand, and troubleshoot electrical drawings and P&IDs.Document Automation/SCADA systems per established procedures.Mentor and help train junior level personnel through training and review of their work plans and system installs.Coordinate and participate in the design, development and administration of standards and documentation relating to automation systems.Enforce adherence to corporate Automation/SCADA standards.Essential Job Responsibilities Continued:Adheres to the company’s values – integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment and innovation.Supports company vision and mission.Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.Other Job Responsibilities:Other duties as assigned by management.Qualifications:Ability to work 12 hours per day, 14/14 day rotational assignment on the North Slope of Alaska.Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the company.Strong ability in diagnosing and solving SCADA related problems while maintaining patience, professionalism, and courtesy.Understanding of Automation/SCADA system setup and maintenance regarding administration, programming, database administration, telemetry, and RTU input management understanding of the technology related to SCADA design and maintenance of a SCADA system.Understanding of Industry standard alarming and governanceAbility to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and concentrate on detailed information in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.Solid understanding of desktop computers, networking, printers, and general office applications.Good written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex computer/information systems information into an organized and presentable manner.Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.Oil and gas industry experience preferred.Proficiency with one or more of the following software platforms:AVEVA System Platform (and OMI), AVEVA InTouch, Honeywell Experion & Safety Builder, Rockwell Studio 5000, Emerson PAC Machine Edition, ProWORX 32, Siemens 4-mation, ABB S+ Engineering/Composer.Education Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related technical field plus three (3) years of experience in Industrial Process Control/SCADA.ORAssociate’s Degree in a related technical field plus five (5) years of progressive experience in SCADA or automation environments.ORSeven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in Industrial Process Control, SCADA, or Operational Technology roles.Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:None.
