Job summary

Hilcorp on the North Slope of Alaska seeks a skilled Automation/SCADA technician to assist in the administration, maintenance, and operation of automation and control systems for field operations. You will design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based controls, develop HMI/DCS apps, and ensure network and protocol integrity across Ethernet, OPC, Modbus, and ControlNet.

Ideal candidates have strong SCADA architecture knowledge, hands-on troubleshooting ability, and experience with AVEVA, Honeywell

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, IT, CS or related field with 3 years in Industrial Process Control/SCADA.
• Associate’s Degree plus 5 years in SCADA/automation environments.
• 7 years progressive experience in Industrial Process Control/SCADA/OT roles.
• Oil & gas industry experience preferred.
• Proficiency with multiple SCADA software platforms listed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design, development and administration of automation/SCADA systems.
• Troubleshoot and maintain control systems and field equipment.
• Program PLCs (Allen-Bradley, GE, Modicon) and troubleshoot.
• Develop and tune HMI/DCS applications with scripting and databases.
• Set up and maintain process control networks (Ethernet, OPC, Modbus).
• Read and interpret electrical drawings and P&IDs.
• Mentor junior personnel and ensure standards are followed.
• Coordinate documentation and adherence to SCADA standards.

Job Objective

Assists with the technical work in the administration, maintenance, and operation of Automation/SCADA, distributed control, telemetry input, and computer systems for field operations.

• Strong working knowledge of Industrial Automation/SCADA architecture design including control, measurement and safety systems for oil and gas production facilities.
• Work with field Instrumentation and Electrical Team assisting with troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial controls-related equipment.
• Design and manage control system and SCADA related projects.
• Keep abreast of new Automation/SCADA related developments and technology in areas such as equipment, software, government regulations, PCN cybersecurity, and communications.
• Program and troubleshoot PLC based control systems including Allen-Bradley (PLC 5, SLC, Control Logix), GE and Modicon.
• Design, Program, and Troubleshoot HMI/DCS applications to include graphical design, scripting, and database queries on platforms including Wonderware, GE iFIX and Honeywell Experion.
• Set up and maintain process control networks using Ethernet, OPC, Modbus, ControlNet and other Automation specific protocols.
• Read, understand, and troubleshoot electrical drawings and P&IDs.
• Mentor and help train junior level personnel through training and review of their work plans and system installs.
• Coordinate and participate in the design, development and administration of standards and documentation relating to automation systems.
• Enforce adherence to corporate Automation/SCADA standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to work 12 hours per day, 14/14 day rotational assignment on the North Slope of Alaska.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the company.
• Strong ability in diagnosing and solving SCADA related problems while maintaining patience, professionalism, and courtesy.
• Understanding of Automation/SCADA system setup and maintenance regarding administration, programming, database administration, telemetry, and RTU input management understanding of the technology related to SCADA design and maintenance of a SCADA system.
• Understanding of Industry standard alarming and governance
• Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and concentrate on detailed information in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
• Solid understanding of desktop computers, networking, printers, and general office applications.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex computer/information systems information into an organized and presentable manner.
• Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.
• Oil and gas industry experience preferred.
• Proficiency with one or more of the following software platforms: AVEVA System Platform (and OMI), AVEVA InTouch, Honeywell Experion & Safety Builder, Rockwell Studio 5000, Emerson PAC Machine Edition, ProWORX 32, Siemens 4-mation, ABB S+ Engineering/Composer.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related technical field plus three (3) years of experience in Industrial Process Control/SCADA.

OR

• Associate’s Degree in a related technical field plus five (5) years of progressive experience in SCADA or automation environments.

OR

• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in Industrial Process Control, SCADA, or Operational Technology roles.
