Job summary

CONVERGIX Automation Solutions in Minnesota seeks an Applications Engineer to develop three or more project opportunities daily and visit customer sites across North America to understand challenges and identify automation opportunities. You will conceptualize solutions using smart industrial robots and draft plans to turn concepts into reality, covering scope, costing, schedule, and performance criteria.

Occasional weekend or after‑hours work may be required.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of automation industry experience; experience developing technical proposals and costing.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and customer part prints.
• Experience developing basic CAD concepts and understanding electrical/pneumatic control.
• Strong communication skills to present to internal teams, customers and partners.
• Experience working with project teams to design and estimate complete systems.
• Recognize cost factors such as timelines, materials, labor, and tooling.

Responsibilities

• Engage customers through requirements, concept generation, cost development and proposal presentation.
• Support win strategy with sales and management teams.
• Lead technical alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
• Present concepts emphasizing advantages.
• Support the proposal design team and processes.
• Document requirements and risks; manage project plans and changes.
• Participate in technical advisory roles and customer interactions at all levels.
• Ensure smooth handoff to operations for maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Follow the standardized quoting process.
• Deliver presentations including capture plans and reviews.
• Utilize templates, cost worksheets, CAD, and compliance matrices in proposals.
• Access technical writers and simulation resources to enhance proposals.
• Leverage cross‑business expertise via SharePoint and MS Teams.
• Conceptualize automation solutions for complex manufacturing challenges in a team.
• Develop supplier scopes (SSOWs) and evaluate supplier compliance with Supply Chain.
• Maintain an active risk register and mitigation plans.
