Automation Quality Lead - WebApp (Node.js & React)

What you’ll do

SAP recently decided to combine and harmonize all SAP Sovereign Cloud offerings, establishing an end-to-end process for the Public Sector and regulated industries. The newly created Global Sovereign Cloud Delivery & Operations business unit is part of SAP Product Engineering with responsibility across the relevant Sovereign Cloud portfolio of SAP. Global Sovereign Cloud Delivery & Operations is collaborating closely with all Board areas to establish a harmonized, scalable, and consistent offering with transparent and standardized deliverables.

In this role, you will join the SAP Sovereign Cloud Automation & Tooling team and lead the Quality Engineering efforts for the Operations Control Plane (OCP)—a core product responsible for observability, control, and policy enforcement in regulated cloud landscapes. You will drive test strategy, quality automation, and compliance validation for a modern, microservices-based WebApp stack built with Node.js and React.

You will collaborate closely with developers, architects, and product managers to ensure the delivery of secure, performant, and regulation-compliant solutions that meet the high standards required for Sovereign Cloud. As a quality leader, you will have the opportunity to define and evolve automation best practices at scale and contribute to the success of the SAP Sovereign Cloud platform.

In the role of Automation Quality Lead, you will:

• Define and implement the end-to-end Test Strategy for the WebApp landscape (Node.js backend, React frontend).
• Build and evolve automation frameworks for UI, API, integration, and performance testing using modern JS/TS tooling (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Jest).
• Integrate automation pipelines into CI/CD workflows with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or SAP internal toolchains.
• Establish test governance, quality metrics, and compliance coverage aligned with Sovereign Cloud requirements.
• Conduct quality reviews and provide technical leadership across automation initiatives.
• Guide developers and QA engineers in shift-left testing, code quality practices, and issue triage.
• Collaborate with architects and operations teams to validate deployment, monitoring, and logging from a QA perspective.
• Drive test data strategy, environment readiness, and support test planning for classified or security-sensitive workloads.
• Contribute to documentation and readiness of the product for internal and external audits.

What you bring

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience in quality engineering with full-stack WebApps, ideally in enterprise SaaS or cloud-native environments.
• Deep knowledge of modern testing frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Jest, Mocha, Supertest, etc.).
• Experience integrating tests into DevOps pipelines and working in Agile/DevSecOps teams.
• Understanding of compliance, security, and data residency concerns in regulated environments.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and cross-team collaboration skills.
• Ability to lead discussions on quality ownership, test design, and risk mitigation.

Nice to have

• Experience with Sovereign Cloud, SAP BTP, or regulated industry solutions.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, and microservice-based architecture.
• Exposure to contract testing, performance/load testing, or service mocking.
• Understanding of secure development lifecycles, vulnerability scanning, and traceability.
