Job summary
Corning Inc. in Hickory, NC is seeking an Automation Measurement Engineer to lead design and integration of advanced measurement, sensing, inspection, and test systems across complex automation platforms.
You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and manufacturing teams to define requirements, drive architecture decisions, and mentor junior engineers. The role emphasizes results, accuracy, and scalable solutions in industrial environments.
Qualifications
- BS in Engineering, Physics, or related field with 6–8 years; MS with 4–6; or PhD with 0–3 years.
- Hands-on experience with optics, metrology, measurement, and inspection systems in industrial/automation environments.
- Knowledge of engineering mechanics, fixtures, tooling, tolerance analysis, and precision assembly.
- Ability to lead technical projects across multiple engineering disciplines with strong communication.
- Scientific programming experience in C#, C++, Java, or similar languages.
- Strong analytical skills including data analysis, statistics, and calibration.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and integrate automated measurement, sensing, inspection, and test solutions across complex automation systems.
- Lead system architecture decisions, feasibility studies, and POC development to reduce technical risk.
- Drive integration of measurement hardware, sensors, fixtures, and software into broader automation platforms; troubleshoot performance.
