Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Quality Systems Manufacturing Engineer to design and launch automated measurement systems that support dimensional quality of body assemblies and complete vehicles. The role leads cross-functional development from concept through production validation, partnering with Body Quality, BIW/GA, controls, robotics, and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in Body Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering.
• Experience developing automated systems in a Body Shop, with understanding of processing, design, construction, integration, and launch requirements.
• Project management experience with suppliers and integrators to ensure timely delivery of equipment and systems.
• Expertise in body manufacturing and assembly processes, with experience in dimensional quality and/or measurement systems.
• General knowledge of statistics and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• High analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage diverse assignments concurrently.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to lead, motivate, facilitate, and instruct others cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of automated body assembly and vehicle measurement systems, including equipment, tooling, process sequence and flow, facilities, controls integration, installation, and dimensional validation.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver measurement solutions.
• Develop detailed zone processes, conversion timing, and cost estimates for new and existing programs while ensuring deliverables meet program timing.
• Define Statements of Requirements (SORs) for sourced measurement, tooling, and automation equipment systems and manage suppliers and integrators.
• Define dimensional measurement strategies with VDQM, Body and GA Quality Leads, and Plant Dimensional personnel.
• Manage system development through concept, processing, tool design, construction, integration, installation, and dimensional validation in an assembly plant or metal center.
• Deliver a tuned-in body in accordance with MV-1 and PED114, incorporating lessons learned into standards and processes.
