Job summary

AutomationDirect is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to keep warehouse automation and mechanical equipment running at peak uptime. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, and electrical components, while documenting work and coordinating with logistics.

You will use CMMS daily, follow lockout/tagout procedures, and participate in ongoing training on WMS and TGW systems. Strong problem solving and independent work ethic are essential.

Qualifications

  • Requires at least 2 years of college toward a Mechatronics degree or similar, or an Associate degree with certificate program.
  • Requires 4 years of electrical experience or electro‑mechanical field experience.
  • Requires experience with 480V electrical wiring and installation.
  • 3 years’ experience with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Requires basic understanding of PLCs and how they control machines and automation equipment.
  • Requires basic understanding of HMI and intuitive user interfaces.
  • Requires ability to read blueprints, manuals, electrical drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Requires knowledge of safe energy isolation practices and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Requires knowledge of multimeters for energised/de-energised verification.
  • Requires understanding of electronics, electrical/mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic schematics and automated systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and maintain automation and mechanical equipment.
  • Coordinate with logistics to ensure uptime and efficiency.
  • Prepare reports and share information during downtime.
  • Keep maintenance procedures up-to-date and communicate changes.
  • Respond promptly to radio calls from the logistics team.
  • Document work orders, PM records and service reports in CMMS.
  • Develop improvements using downtime and quality data for better performance.
  • Read electrical schematics to troubleshoot and improve equipment.

Job description

Objective

This position has safety‑sensitive functions. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain all automation and mechanical equipment in the warehouse for maximum uptime, recognize problems and alarms on all computerized monitoring systems for the Shuttles, ASRS cranes and equipment, and respond appropriately. Works independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, determine corrective actions, repair and maintain all automation and auxiliary equipment, including inspections, preventive and predictive maintenance, automation equipment, electrical low and high voltage, PLCs, electronics, pneumatics/hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Work with the customer (logistics team) and provide a quality level of service to ensure production uptime and efficiency.
  • Write reports as needed, including Daily Communication Report, sharing information with relevant parties during production downtimes.
  • Ensure internal maintenance procedures are kept up-to-date and communicated on all automation equipment.
  • Answer radio calls from the logistics team and respond in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure continuity between maintenance personnel and the logistics team.
  • Complete work‑related documentation including work orders, PM records, parts requisitions, work execution reports, and service records in CMMS in a timely manner.
  • Participate in ongoing training and increase knowledge base of the WMS and TGW systems, along with their communications between each other.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, follow company health, safety, housekeeping and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Use CMMS (maintenance software) and Microsoft Outlook daily to track current maintenance tasks and communicate with the maintenance team.
  • Lead ongoing improvement efforts in regard to equipment, tools and fixtures.
  • Use downtime and quality data, along with a solid analytical approach, to develop and implement continual improvement.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics to troubleshoot or improve automation equipment.
  • Provide direct technical support to the vendor to advance the performance of the equipment and troubleshoot.
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as the position grows and as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • Requires at least 2 years of college education toward a Mechatronics degree or a similar degree, or an Associate degree in science plus a certificate program equivalent to a 2‑year degree in Mechatronics or a similar field.
  • Requires 4 years of electrical experience, or experience in electro‑mechanical fields.
  • Requires experience with 480V electrical wiring and installation.
  • 3 years’ experience with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
  • Requires basic understanding of PLCs and how they control machines and automation equipment.
  • Requires basic understanding of HMI and ensuring that user interfaces are intuitive and user‑friendly.
  • Requires ability to utilize and interpret blueprints, manuals, electrical line and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Requires knowledge of safe practices for isolating, de‑energizing, locking and tagging out energy‑intrinsic equipment, and follows recognized procedures for shutdown in conjunction with Permit-to‑Work systems.
  • Requires knowledge of using a multimeter to verify de‑energized or energized equipment.
  • Requires a good understanding of electronics, electrical/Mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics; electro‑mechanical troubleshooting skills; motor drives; data acquisition programs; electronic control boards and troubleshooting; automation, controls, HMI, sensing devices, and maintenance software.
  • Ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Knowledge of current WMS processes for receiving, replenishing, and picking is a plus.
  • Arc Flash Certification is a plus.
  • Industrial hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic experience will be viewed favorably.
  • Basic understanding of Automated Vehicles is a plus.
