Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Co. Memphis plant is seeking a Maintenance Technician to own equipment reliability, write and troubleshoot PLC code, and drive improvements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The role partners with Engineering and Planning, conducts PM tasks, coordinates with contractors, and leads shift technicians to reduce losses while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience supporting machine control systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Rockwell PLC hardware, PLC programming, VFDs, and HMI.
• Proficient knowledge of bearings, valves, piping systems, hydraulic systems, steam systems, gear boxes.
• Strong ability to access and comprehend technical manuals via the internet, and interact with external technical resources while addressing problems
• Able to operate a forklift with previous forklift operating experience
• Effective team leadership skills including conflict resolution, problem solving, interpersonal skills, time management, and process improvement
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Able to work overtime and weekends according to business needs
• Ability to work a flexible schedule across shifts as needed

Responsibilities

• Owns all mechanical and electrical equipment in the department.
• Write, implement, and troubleshoot PLC code on new and existing equipment.
• Provides project input and collaboration with Engineering Department.
• Drives out losses (failures and breakdowns) within equipment and department.
• Develops preventative maintenance (PM) tasks for all mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Trains shift technicians on operational and maintenance skills.
• Take ownership of Plant processes that promote equipment reliability.
• Has a planner role in Maximo, managing all aspects of work orders system.
