Techtronic Industries is seeking an Automation Engineering Specialist 1 to join our Test Automation Group in Anderson. You will help build test systems, automate product testing, and assist with mechanical and electrical system assembly, wiring, and debugging.

The ideal candidate has basic skills in electronics, CAD, and PLC/HMI programming, and is comfortable working with cross-functional teams. Travel up to 5% and a focus on practical problem solving are valued.

Qualifications

  • AS degree preferred in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics or a related field.
  • 0–3 years of lab or technical experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%.
  • Basic knowledge of circuits/electronics and wiring.
  • Experience with data acquisition and lab equipment is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with attention to detail.

JOB SUMMARY

The Automation Engineering Specialist 1 supports Product Development and Engineering through building test systems and automating product testing. The Test Automation Group designs, builds, and automates the mechanical and electrical systems of new and existing test lab systems. Developing mechanical mechanisms, generating mechanical parts (CAD), basic programming (PLCs, Robots, etc.), wiring, and debugging are the normal tasks that are done on a regular basis. An ideal candidate has a strong aptitude for developing mechanical and electrical solutions based on a given challenge or requirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES / SKILLS

  • Basic technical skills and ability to contribute effectively as a member of a cross-functional team.
  • Beginner in the use of typical lab equipment (Multimeters, Various Instrumentation, Power Supplies, Data Acquisition Systems, Power Analyzers, etc.).
  • Ability to assemble mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Basic machining skills.
  • Basic understanding of circuits/electronics.
  • Basic ability to support wiring, fixture assembly, and test system build activities.
  • Basic ability to assist with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues.
  • Basic knowledge of 3D CAD software, SolidWorks or NX preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of data acquisition, PLC and HMI programming – National Instruments, Allen-Bradley, Click, Groov EPIC, and Mitsubishi preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Ignition or other SCADA preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including one-on-one communication skills and technical report writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work effectively with internal and external resources.
  • Demonstrated project management skills -- must be organized and pay excellent attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
  • Team player with a positive approach to problem-solving.
