Job summary

Jabil, a global engineering and manufacturing solutions leader, seeks a hands-on Summer Intern in automation. You will design, implement, and test automated systems, including robotic cells and PLC-controlled machinery, while collaborating with production and maintenance teams to drive improvements.

Bring your hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial robotics, and contribute to documentation, installation, and validation efforts within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Previous internship or project work in manufacturing, process improvement, or industrial engineering is a plus.
  • Experience with Visio, Project, or AutoCAD; exposure to Lean Manufacturing, CI, or Six Sigma concepts is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate automated systems, including robotic cells, PLC-controlled machinery, and vision inspection systems.
  • Program and configure PLCs (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens), HMIs, and industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, Universal Robots).
  • Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of automation equipment and software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and maintenance, to identify automation opportunities and implement solutions.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in equipment installation, commissioning, and validation activities.
  • Provide technical support and training to production and maintenance personnel on automated systems.
  • Stay updated on emerging automation technologies and industry best practices.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation performance and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards in all automation projects.

What Will You Do?

How Will You Get Here?

Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience
  • Previous internship, project work, or academic experience related to manufacturing, process improvement, or industrial engineering is a plus.
  • Working on engineering projects, process mapping, or data analysis through coursework is beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, or AutoCAD.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Six Sigma concepts.
  • Interest in manufacturing operations, production systems, and process optimization.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

The hourly pay range for this role is $16.00 - $32.00. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
