Job summary

Jabil is seeking a Lead Automation Engineer to design, develop, and deploy advanced automation systems across manufacturing facilities. You will lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and drive continuous improvement in automation strategies to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

You will collaborate with manufacturing, process engineering, IT, and QA teams, perform feasibility and risk assessments, and maintain detailed documentation to support scalable automation solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years in industrial automation with PLC/HMI/robotics focus.
• Proven experience leading automation projects from concept to implementation.
• Expertise in industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of complex automation systems including robotics, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial networks.
• Manage automation projects from concept to completion with scope, resources, budget, and timeline oversight.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities and integrate solutions.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses for automation initiatives.
• Develop and maintain engineering documentation such as schematics, programming logic, and test plans.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and drive continuous improvement.
• Troubleshoot complex automation issues to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
• Stay updated on emerging automation tech and best practices; implement where appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of complex automation systems, including robotics, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial networks.
• Manage automation projects from concept to completion, including scope definition, resource allocation, budget management, and timeline adherence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, process engineering, IT, and quality assurance, to identify automation opportunities and integrate solutions.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses for proposed automation initiatives.
• Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including schematics, programming logic, test plans, and operational procedures.
• Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior automation engineers, fostering their growth and development.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation system issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
• Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies and industry best practices, recommending and implementing innovative solutions.
• Ensure all automation solutions comply with relevant safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying areas for process optimization and efficiency gains through automation.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in industrial automation, with a strong focus on PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi), HMI development, and robotic integration (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB).
• Proven experience leading automation projects from conception to successful implementation.
• Expertise in industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).
• Strong understanding of control systems theory, mechatronics, and vision systems.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for electrical and mechanical design.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
• Ability to travel as needed to support various Jabil manufacturing sites.
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, UL, CE) related to automation and industrial safety.
